Waipio Mural Project

Wapi'o , Hawai'i

The Waipiʻo Mural Project is the largest mural across the Hawaiʻi pae ʻāina — spanning nearly 21,000 square feet across one kilometer of highway. Completed in just one weekend (24 hours total), the project brought together three walls, three Hawaiʻi DOE high schools, and three lead artists, engaging more than 100 paid interns, student artists, and community volunteers.

A first-of-its-kind collaboration between the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HIDoT) and the Hawaiʻi Department of Education, the project reimagined a stretch of highway wall along Kamehameha Highway in Waipiʻo that had long been impacted by graffiti. HIDoT entrusted lead artists Solomon Enos, Jesse Velasquez, and me to transform nearly a kilometer of concrete into a visual narrative of the Waipiʻo ahupuaʻa.

In partnership with Mililani High School, Pearl City High School, and Waipahu High School, students collaborated to design and install a sweeping mural that honors Waipi'o ahupua'a and its history and stewardship.

Special mahalo to teaching artists Desmond Neil, Maya Bernardo, and Erin Nagasime for their leadership and dedication, and to the students of Pearl City High School for their trust, creativity, and commitment.

Mahalo to Hawaii Department of Transportation for this keystone opportunity to mālama and reimagine public infrastructure through art.

The Hawaiian Humane Society is the largest nonprofit, open-admission animal shelter in Hawaii. In May 2023, they unveiled the new Kosasa Family Campus at Ho'opili in Ewa, O'ahu. This triptych mural is dedicated to the founders of the Hawaiian Humane Society, the generous donors who supported the development, and the past, current, and future community of Ewa.

Mahalo to the Hawaiian Humane Socitey for this opportunity, and especially Howard and Randy from Mr. and Mr. Creations.

Art at Marks Garage

Art at Marks Garage is a treasured art gallery and creative space that's conveniently located in downtown Honolulu. I'm deeply honored to serve as Creative Director and Designer for Marks first and only mural. The goal was to encourage interactive community interest in valued landmarks of the Honolulu area such as Iolani Palace, Aloha Tower, Hawaii Theatre, Pauahi St., and Marks Garage.

Mahalo nui loa to all the volunteers and artists who helped with the mural. If you're ever in the area, please visit the monthly rotating gallery Art at Marks Garage and support local artists!

Celebrahtees

Celebrahtees is a Hawaiian-themed restaurant that's located in the old Buzz's Steakhouse in the heart of central O'ahu. The owner asked that we, "make it look like you're stepping into someone's aunty's backyard."

Flora Galore!

Consisting of several indoor murals across nine walls, (with the largest wall being 21’x14’), the entire project took around a month to complete. The artwork is intentionally focused on native plants to Hawai'i such as the ti plant, the loulu palm tree, and the 'ulu fruit tree

This couldn't have been possible without the kokua and partnership of Akemi Santiago, my dear friend who's a Hawaii-born and raised multi-media artist currently based in LA.
